Plenty of ‘monkeying’ around with the new Hyundai i30

How can you put the new i30 through its paces to ensure it’s fit for your little monkey’s…….let actual monkey’s run riot in it of course! No it’s not a late April’s fool, a troop of Baboons at Knowsley Safari Park were actually left to their own devices for 10 hours in a brand new i30 to give it the ultimate durability test. Hyundai i30 Product Manager Felicity Wood said: "At Hyundai we believe in new thinking which is why we decided to take a new approach with this durability test. The fact that it survived with only a few scrapes is testament to the way a modern Hyundai is designed and engineered.”

David Ross who is General Manager at Knowsley Safari Park said: “For a baboon to have a car to play with for a whole day is manna from heaven! If you put them on any car they will scour it for the weak points and find any faults. At one point there were 40 monkeys in the car, pushing it to its limits - that’s ten times the size of the average human family.”

To thank the monkeys for their time and effort Hyundai donated £1,000 to the Primate Society of Great Britain.

Toyota GT86 named Car of the Year

Already a winner in our eyes, it’s now official after the Toyota GT86 was named ‘Car of the Year’ at the 2012 Vehicle Dynamics International Awards*. The award was announced by an expert panel of journalists and specialist engineers and technologists who said “Toyota has succeeded in its aim of recapturing the classic sports car experience in its new GT86.” Toyota also scooped the Dynamic Team Award which is testament to Toyota’s desire of producing cars that are more rewarding to drive - real driver’s cars!

Arriving this summer the GT86 is set to relight Toyota’s sports car heritage. It was designed with every intention of being driver focused car, going back to basics offering a plain and simple driver’s car. The setup is classic sports car - 2.0 litre free-revving petrol engine up front; rear wheel drive; lightweight; compact and crisp handling.

Hyundai i40 receives another top honour

Here at Pentagon Hyundai we always knew the Hyundai i40 was a winner but now we have been proved right once again! In addition to the two previous honours scooped last year (‘Best Estate Car’ at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards and the ‘Golden Award’ at the EuroCarBody Conference) the i40 Tourer has now been crowned ‘Best Estate Car’ in the Business Car Manager annual awards. The awards identify the best company cars currently available on market. The i40 fought off tough competition from other manufacturers to reign supreme in the category.

President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, Tony Whitehorn, said ‘To take the Best Estate Car award is a huge honour for us and it bears testimony to just how well the i40 Tourer performs. The lowest BIK tax rates coupled with ultra-efficient engines, premium levels of equipment and space and practicality make the i40 Tourer the ideal business estate car.’

The i40 Tourer was praised on its efficiency, practicality, styling and low whole-life costs. The amazing 1.7 CRDi 115PS Blue Drive engine achieves 65.7mpg on the combined cycle whilst emitting only 113g/km CO2. All this is excellent news for company car drivers and these figures are recognised as some of the best in its class.

New Hyundai i20 - style, technology and value as standard

Following on from our last Blog, the new Hyundai i20 will be available from 7^th May 2012 and prices will start at under £10k! Improvements have been made both internally and externally to further improve Hyundai’s very popular supermini.

There will be three main trim levels available starting with the base level Classic which comes with a very generous list of standard equipment. This includes air conditioning, remote central locking, six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Vehicle Stability Management which is a first for the i20. The next trim up is the Active which in addition to the Classic specification has 15-inch alloy wheels, electric/heated door mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, front fog lights, leather steering wheel & gear knob and rear electric windows* (*5 door only). For those requiring even more luxury there is the range topping Style model. This includes automatic headlights, rain sensing front wipers, climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels and an automatic dimming rear view mirror with integrated reversing camera. Buyers will also have the option of a Convenience Pack which comprises of chrome exterior door handles, keyless entry, supervision cluster and engine start/stop button.

Further details have also emerged on the improved engine line-up. The ever popular 1.2 litre petrol engine now has increased fuel economy figure of 57.7mpg on the combined cycle (existing engine is 55.4 mpg). CO2 emissions have also been reduced from 119g/km to 114g/km which makes it one of the most fuel efficient 1.2 litre petrol engines on the market! For those concerned that power has been scarified over improved fuel efficiency fear not as power has actually been increased from 79ps to 85ps.

As previously mentioned in our last Blog post the new i20 also sees the introduction of an ultra-efficient 1.1 litre diesel engine. A three-cylinder set-up, Intelligent Stop & Go and low rolling resistance tyres all contribute to an incredibly low CO2 figure of just 84g/km and a fuel economy figure of 88.3mpg (on the combined cycle) which makes it the lowest emitting diesel engine in the UK - quite an achievement I think you’ll agree!

Say hello to the new Hyundai i20

Already a best seller within the Hyundai portfolio the i20 will soon be given a mid-life freshen up. The new i20 will include the signature Hyundai fluidic sculpture design with new headlamps and hexagonal front grille. The rear light clusters and bumper will also receive a slight revamp enhancing the exterior looks even further. Updates aren’t only limited to the exterior - under the bonnet sees further improvements. Every engine in the range has been updated to provide improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. June 2012 also sees the introduction of a new 1.1 CRDi diesel engine which will benefit from the lowest emissions of any conventional diesel combustion engine, along with outstanding fuel economy. The new i20 is also crammed full with intelligent features like automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers along with a reversing camera in the rear view mirror (Style model). The new i20 will also boast the standard five year unlimited mileage warranty so you can be assured that quality will be of the very highest standard.
